The pleasure of making
There seems to be nothing that a piece of string cannot be turned into, either as an object of art, of practical use, or both.
The language of knots is fascinating too. I use terms such as 'monkey's fist' and Turk's Head to illustrate Lakoff and Johnson's theory of experiential metaphorical concept, which demonstrates how metaphor reinforces memory and understanding - now evolved into neuroscience studies.
Then there is the pleasure of making, concentrating and loss of time as described by Csikszentmihaly in Flow: the psychology of happiness.
